In business class checked-in baggage can weigh up to 30 kg and 2 items of cabin baggage can weigh a total of 8 kg. Please contact us if you have any particular wishes. Travelers who do not have check-in baggage can have up to 15 kg of cabin baggage.

Check in all the way

If you are traveling onwards from Copenhagen to another airport, we make sure that your luggage arrives at your final destination provided that you are traveling with SAS or Icelandair and you have purchased your ticket via SAS, Icelandair or a travel agency (these journeys will also be available for purchase at airgreenland.dk shortly). If you have purchased your tickets separately, then unfortunately we will not be able to check your baggage through to your final destination.

Cabin baggage

All passengers may have cabin baggage with maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm and a total weight of 8 kg. The total sum of length + width + height for 1 item of cabin baggage must not exceed 118 cm.

Travelers on economy class may take one item of cabin baggage with them, whilst travelers on business class may take 2 items of cabin baggage provided that the total weight does not exceed 8 kg.

In addition, passengers may also bring tax-free goods. If the amount of cabin baggage exceeds capacity, we reserve the right to stow some of this baggage in the hold.

NB: Always keep any medicine in your cabin baggage so that it is available to you even if your checked-in baggage is delayed. Please ensure that you are aware of special restrictions on liquids and creams in your cabin baggage.

Travelers with cabin baggage only

For travelers who wish to travel with carry-on baggage only, it is possible to bring one item of cabin baggage which can weigh up to 15 kg. The dimensions of this baggage must not exceed 55 x 40 x 23 cm. Carry-on baggage must be stowed on the floor under your seat – not in the luggage compartment.

Excess or oversize items of cabin baggage will be checked in, weighed, tagged with the passenger's destination and loaded in the hold with the regular baggage.

Cabin baggage up to 15 kg will be tagged with a special cabin baggage tag either at check-in or at the gate.

Please note that other airlines may have different rules regarding weight and dimensions of carry-on baggage.

Extraordinary cabin baggage

In special circumstances passengers may bring oversize carry-on baggage into the cabin to be placed on a seat provided that the passenger has booked and paid for the extra seat(s) required in advance. The price of an extra seat is equivalent to that which the passenger himself has paid.

Max. weight per item of cabin baggage on a seat: 50 kg.
Total max. weight of cabin baggage on a seat: 75 kg.
Max. dimensions:

Aircraft type                                            Max. dimensions (cm)

The same restrictions concerning dimensions, weight and price also apply as above if the musical instrument is transported on a seat.

In addition, the following special rules apply to cellos: The cello must NOT be placed on the extra seat, but instead placed on the floor against the seat in front and secured with an extended safety belt. The cello must NOT be placed at emergency exits or in the first row behind an emergency exit or partition.

A double bass may not be taken into the cabin.

If instruments are sent as ordinary baggage, they must be packed in a special instrument case of hard material that can withstand normal baggage handling without the instrument getting damaged. Musical instruments are loaded in the hold with other baggage.Musical instruments are regarded as part of the normal checked-in baggage. An excess baggage fee is charged if the total weight of the passenger's baggage exceeds the permitted baggage allowance.

Check-in baggage

We weigh your baggage when you check in. Each individual item of baggage may not weigh more than 20 kg on economy class and 30 kg on business class. If your baggage weighs too much, you will have to pay a surcharge per extra kilo for each leg of the trip. The fee depends on which leg of the trip is being undertaken. Therefore please contact the airport/heliport from where you will be departing if you are in any doubt.

If there are several of you traveling together, problems with excess baggage can sometimes be dealt with by redistributing the contents of your baggage. Alternatively, part of your baggage can be sent as freight, where the weight limits are different.

A good tip in advance: Take a photo of all your baggage. This will be useful if your baggage is damaged or does not reach your destination on time.

Children and baggage

Children below the age of 2 are entitled to have 10 kg of baggage and 1 collapsible pushchair. The sum of the length + width + height may not exceed 158 cm per item of checked baggage.

Fragile baggage

Air Greenland does not accept any liability for fragile or perishable items or goods such as musical instruments, rifles or computers.

Baggage tag

Your baggage is labeled with the airport at which you are scheduled to arrive, and you will be given a baggage tag which will be stuck to your itinerary. You have to use this as identification of your baggage should an error occur or if your baggage is delayed or lost. You will also need this tag if you wish to make a claim to your insurance company.

Leave it at home

Check this list to see which items may not be stowed in the hold. Note, in particular, that it is illegal to put lighters into any baggage that you check in.

For the sake of their health

The personnel who load baggage onto the plane are not allowed to lift more than 30 kg at a time. If you have more than 30 kg, we kindly ask you to split it between two or more pieces of luggage.

Excess baggage of more than 75 kg

Booking transport of extra heavy baggage of more than 75 kg must be arranged with the travel agency in plenty of time prior to your flight. If you have booked your flight with us, you must contact websupport@airgreenland.gl. Please specify the weight in kilos, items and dimensions. Make sure you arrive in good time, as seats need to be blocked for the excess weight. Each airplane and helicopter has a different capacity. You will receive a bill along with your confirmation.

Cancellations that are eligible for a refund can take place up to two days prior to departure. A handling fee is charged, however, in addition to an amount per planned day of travel. If you cancel your flight later than the deadline stated above, the amount paid will not be refunded.

Excess baggage less than 75 kg

Excess baggage less than 75 kg cannot be booked in advance. You will receive confirmation of transport at check-in on the day of your departure. Alternatively, your baggage can be sent as freight.

In addition, you can carry two items of cabin baggage with maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm and a total weight of 8 kilos. This applies to flights between Greenland and Denmark and on domestic flights in both countries. Cabin baggage must be presented and may also need to be weighed at check-in.
