About Online booking

Your advantages with the ticketless flight

You are advised of your booking number as soon as you purchase your seat on the flight. This number - together with your passport or other valid photo ID - is your "ticket". When you book online you will no longer have to wait for documents to arrive by post or to stand in a queue to get them at the airport or at the travel agents.

You cannot lose your "ticket". If you have printed the e-mail with the booking number you received and you lose the print-out, you can simply print it out again. No-one else can use your booking number. It is only valid when used together with your passport or other photo ID at check-in at the airport.

It is the booking number itself that is your "ticket". We recommend that you print the e-mail you receive with the booking number. If you don't have a printer, you only need to state your booking number and preferably also the GL number of your flight (e.g. GL 266).

The ticketless flight is cheapest when you book online. The charge is only DKK 75. If you purchase a seat on a outbound and inbound flight in the same booking, the charge is DKK 150 in all.

Ticketless travel applies to our entire route network - domestic and to Denmark.

How to book

Follow the instructions step-by-step when booking your flight!

We provide several different products. Some are fully flexible and may be changed or refunded; others are restricted and cannot be changed or refunded. We recommend that you read about our products and the conditions that apply before you purchase your seat.

There are three important steps involved in booking:
  • Enter your first name and last name as it says in your passport. Middle names can be abbreviated.
Ex. 'Hans Joergen B C Andersen'
  • Be very careful to enter your e-mail address correctly
  • Check your booking carefully before you pay online

If you book for someone other than yourself, remember to make sure the person's name is spelled in the same way as it is in the person's passport.

You cannot transfer a booking (a booking number) to anyone else. It is only valid for the person in whose name it was booked.

For flights to Denmark you will have the opportunity of choosing your seat on the aircraft during the booking process.

You cannot use online booking if your booking is for group travel (9 persons or more), children under the age of twelve unaccompanied by a person of at least 16 years of age, or if you require special services (assistance at the airport or on board, wheelchair, carrycot etc.). Please contact our airport offices or Call Center.

You can also buy your ticket at our Call Center. A service fee will apply.

Your profile

You can make purchases at www.airgreenland.com without setting up a profile. It is quick and easy to buy a seat on a flight.

You can also set up a personal profile which saves information about your name, address, telephone, e-mail address etc. For flights between Greenland and Denmark, the profile also remembers your preferred menu on board.

You chose your own user name and password for your profile. When you make your next purchase at www.airgreenland.com, you simply log on with your user name and your password. You can always log on and change the information that is saved in your profile. You can delete your profile by sending an e-mail to websupport@airgreenland.gl stating your user name.

Your personal data is stored under high security and it will not be used by Air Greenland for other purposes or given to a third party.

Language

Our online booking system is available in identical versions in English and Danish. As the underlying booking system does not support Greenlandic, we are unfortunately unable to provide a version in this language.

Book early

Business flexible and Economy flexible (green bookings) may be booked online up to two hours before departure. A red booking may be made online up to 7 days before departure. Other types of bookings must be made online at least 14 days before departure.

NB: Some Air Greenland routes are operated on a service contract for Greenland's Home Rule. This applies to all helicopter routes and to fixed wing flights to and from Upernavik and Qaanaaq. Online booking for these routes can be made up to 24 hours before scheduled departure.

All types of bookings must be paid for in connection with the booking.

We recommend that you book as early as possible. This gives you a better chance of getting the departure that suits you best. The closer to departure, the greater the risk of the flight being sold out.

Waiting lists for flights no longer exist. If your flight was sold out, try to book again at a later date. If another passenger has changed or cancelled his/her booking, the seat will be available.

Journeys with overnight stays

Some long journeys between towns in South Greenland and North Greenland - or between Denmark and towns in North or South Greenland - can only be made with an overnight stay on the way. To make a booking for a journey with an overnight stay, you should choose the "Open Return" option. If you are in doubt if your trip requires an overnight stop, you can download Air Greenland's timetable at the top of the page.

A round trip to several towns must be broken down into a series of bookings, each of which is for max. two departures. Use "Open Return" when selecting departures. For example: Copenhagen-Nuuk-Sisimiut-Ilulissat-Copenhagen will require two bookings. Select "Open Return" and book Copenhagen-Nuuk-Sisimiut, then select "Open Return" again and book Sisimiut-Ilulissat-Copenhagen.

Flights that involve other airlines

Until further notice, you can only book flights on Air Greenland's route network at www.airgreenland.com. We hope soon to be able to provide our customers with access to booking with connecting airlines - for example to domestic airports in Denmark.

Changes and cancellations

Business flexible and Economy flexible (green bookings) can be changed or cancelled up to two hours before departure. This is done by sending an e-mail to websupport@airgreenland.gl or by calling +299 34 34 34. Remember to provide your booking number. At less than two hours notice, the seat is lost. You will have to book and pay again for a seat on another flight.

Other types of bookings cannot be changed or cancelled - see applicable conditions here.

Online payment

When you book online at www.airgreenland.com you pay by credit card or smart card.

The following cards are accepted: Dankort, Visa, Master/ Eurocard, American Express, Visa Electron, Diners.

Credit card fees will be charged. These vary from card company to card company and as at January 1st, 2010 the following rates apply per booking:
American Express: 3.25 %
Diners: 2.50 %
International cards: 1.25 %  (EuroCard and MasterCard)
Dankort: 0.10 % (fixed charge DKK 1.45)
Visa Electron: 1.25 %

The Akiliut card cannot be used for online booking. Contact Grønlandsbanken and ask to be issued with a Visa Electron card. Or book your flight with our Call Center

Check-in at the airport

Check-in desks open 1½ hours before scheduled departure and close 1 hour before scheduled departure. It is not enough to be at the airport one hour before scheduled departure - you must be at the check-in desk at least one hour before scheduled departure, even if there is a queue.

Passengers who arrive at the check-in desk less than one hour before scheduled departure lose the right to a place on the aircraft and do not have the right to a seat on a later flight. The seat on the flight is lost, as it cannot be changed or refunded. However, it is possible to get a refund on that part of the price that consists of taxes and charges.

In Nuuk we offer check-in on the day before departure from Monday to Friday between 16 -18 hrs. If you use this check-in, you should be at the airport a half an hour before departure.

Valid ID

When you check in, you need to provide your booking number and flight number (GL number) and you must show valid ID. Valid ID is a passport or a driver's licence. In addition, citizens of Greenland can use their resident's certificate when travelling between Greenland and Denmark. It is also possible to use an ID card that is approved by the European Schengen Information System.

Children and infants must also have ID when they are checked in. A passport issued to the child, a birth certificate or resident's certificate and registration in a (accompanying) parent's passport is acceptable.
