Air Greenland is one of the safest airlines there is and it has a high level of emergency preparedness and safety.
We have operated as an airline for 50 years in one of the world’s toughest climates and we never compromise on safety.
However, if you are already a little nervous and you have a fear of flying, tell a member of the cabin staff on board the aircraft or tell the staff at check-in. Even better, mention it when you make your reservation with the travel agent and have your fear of flying noted in your booking.
If you book online, you can write to our Call Center, and ask to have it noted in your booking.
We are accustomed to the situation because about a third of our passengers feel insecure, so you are not alone. It is good to know you are not alone.
Prepare your trip well in advance, so you are not stressed, physically or mentally, when you travel. Come to the airport with plenty of time to spare, watch the other passengers and see how calm they look.
During the flight you may hear some unfamiliar sounds, but they are simply caused when we trim the flaps or the rudder, or when the landing gear is lifted or lowered. Actually, these sounds are an assurance that everything is as it should be.
You can find information in advance about all the technical functions and what happens during the flight itself. Any library will have books on the subject.
The aircraft used by Air Greenland are built to withstand the most extreme conditions – and our employees are trained for such conditions.
Turbulence and vibrations occur both on domestic flights in Greenland and on flights between Greenland and Denmark. It can happen all over the world. Here is some good advice: Take a few deep breaths through your nose and down into your abdomen and breathe out slowly. Repeat and repeat. If you control your breathing, you will control your anxiety.
You could also ask your doctor to prescribe a light sedative before your flight.
Air Greenland cannot recommend alcohol as a method of relieving anxiety. In fact, alcohol could increase your nervousness and your fear of flying.
When you book your flight, you can choose an aisle seat. This will give you a little more freedom so you don’t feel claustrophobic.
The best advice we can give is: Sit down, fasten your seatbelt, look forward to a safe flight and enjoy the fantastic view.
