What are cookies?

A cookies is a small passive textfile stored in your browser, when you visit a website. Your browser saves cookies automatically, unless you change the settings.

The advantage about a cookie is, that it recognizes you, when you return to a website. A cookie can contain letters and numbers, but not personal data without your content. A cookie cannot contain vira, because it's not an application.

Types of Cookies

There's a difference between first- and third party cookies.

A first party cookie is located directly on the website you visit, in this case A third party cookie is placed by a third party, like Google Analytics.

For how long a cookie is stored, depends on the purpose of the cookie. Some are deleted right when you close the browser, and others are stored in years. The average lifetime of a cookie is two year.

How do I block/delete cookies?

You can block or delete cookies at any time. Here's a guide to the most common browsers.

Internet Explorer 9:
Click "Functions" in the menu, choose "Safety"  and then "Delete history". Then click "Delete cookies"

Google Chrome:
Click the Chrome menu in the upper right corner and choose "Functions" and "Clear data". Check "Delete cookies and other plugin data" and "Clear cache". Then click "Delete browser data"

Mozilla Firefox:
Click "History" and choose "Delete history". Check "Cookies" and "Cache" and click "Delete now".

Klik "Safari" in the top menu and choose "Settings". Click "Privacy" and choose "Clear website data".
