Air Greenland establishes air bridge for the Inuit Women’s Summit

In connection with the first-ever summit for Inuit women, the Inuit Women’s Summit, held in Sisimiut from October 27–29, 2025, Air Greenland and the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) have entered into a partnership agreement that helps make the summit possible.

The summit brings together over 50 practitioners, changemakers, rights holders, and leaders from Kalaallit Nunaat, Alaska, and Canada in Sisimiut, while participants from Chukotka in Russia will join online. The goal is to share knowledge and experiences that promote the rights of Inuit women and girls.

In addition to flying participants from Alaska and Denmark between Copenhagen and Nuuk, the agreement ensures an extra flight between Nuuk and Iqaluit in Canada. From there, participants will travel together with those from Kalaallit Nunaat to and from Sisimiut.

The partnership agreement is a concrete example of UN Sustainable Development Goal 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, where Air Greenland collaborates with civil society and international actors to promote sustainable development in Greenland.

Jacob Nitter Sørensen, CEO of the Air Greenland Group, states:

“We are proud to support the Inuit Women’s Summit as an important platform for promoting gender equality and combating discrimination against women. It is a natural extension of our social responsibility to contribute to initiatives that bring people together around such an important cause” he says and adds:

“A key prerequisite for Air Greenland being able to facilitate an air bridge for the summit was that ICC contacted us well in advance. We appreciate that.”

The summit is a significant event that ICC has been preparing for a long time. Now the time has come for Inuit women to discuss rights, safety, and strength – rooted in culture, empowerment, and well-being.

Sara Olsvig, Chair of ICC, emphasizes the importance of bringing Inuit women together across regions:

“This is a historic event. Inuit women and girls have been subjected to systemic discrimination and colonial policies. The summit is a step toward healing and reconciliation, and Air Greenland’s support has made it possible.”

In addition to Air Greenland, the summit is supported by several partners, including the Danish Parliament, Pauktuutit – Inuit Women of Canada, the Nordic Council of Ministers, Oceans North Canada, and the International Indigenous Women’s Forum (FIMI).

Air Greenland’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Inga Dóra G. Markussen, signed the partnership agreement on behalf of Air Greenland together with ICC Chair Sara Olsvig.
