Helicopter in Tasiilaq has tecnical issues

Tuesday, January 20

Our H155 helicopter in Tasiilaq has been experiencing technical problems since January 10. Despite various proposed solutions, the weather has prevented us from sending a spare part, as it was not possible to transport the spare part by boat from Kulusuk to Tasiilaq due to ice conditions in the region.

On January 15, we managed to send the part to Tasiilaq on an ambulance flight with our SAR helicopter. However, it turned out that the helicopter still had technical problems, and troubleshooting continued. After the repair, it also turned out that another part was missing. When this fault was discovered, the weather over the weekend was not suitable for flying.

Today Tuesday 20th of january, we have been given permission to fly the SAR helicopter to Tasiilaq to deliver the missing part and transport a mechanic to the town. The helicopter departed from Kangerlussuaq at around 12:00 noon, and the flight time is approximately three hours. Only then can the mechanic begin the repair.

We therefore expect to be able to resume our regular flight operations tomorrow. In addition, we plan to fly the passengers who have been affected by delays on Thursday. However, the forecast for tomorrow shows a risk of both wind and precipitation, which may affect departures. The final outcome depends on the weather, but we hope that conditions will improve.

We understand that this is a frustrating situation, and we hope that today's repairs will solve the problems so that all travelers can reach their destinations.
