The Director of Neriuffiit Kattuffiat, Ivalo Heilmann, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Air Greenland Group, Jacob Nitter Sørensen, signed the agreement at Air Greenland’s head office.
Air Greenland and Neriuffiit Kattuffiat are stepping up local support for cancer patients
Through a new ILIK partnership, Air Greenland is contributing airline tickets worth 150,000 kroner to help Neriuffiit Kattuffiat strengthen local support for cancer patients and their families in Greenland.
Air Greenland and Neriuffiit Kattuffiat have entered into a partnership agreement designed to make it easier for the organisation to reach out to more local communities, thereby ensuring better opportunities for advice, support and a sense of community for cancer patients and their families throughout Greenland, regardless of where they live. With a focus on training volunteers and establishing local contact persons, the initiative aims to ensure that more people can receive support closer to home.
The collaboration includes courses, counselling programmes, information sessions and networking activities in, amongst others, Qaanaaq, Ilulissat, Uummannaq, Sisimiut, Maniitsoq, Qaqortoq, Narsaq, Nanortalik and Tasiilaq. The activities are expected to involve approximately 72 participants.
Transport must support local initiatives
For Air Greenland, this partnership is an opportunity to use the company’s route network to support the work of Neriuffiit Kattuffiat.
“We have a unique opportunity to make a difference through what we do best, connecting people and places. When we enter into partnerships like this, it’s about using our role as an airline to create value that extends beyond the journey itself. We’re delighted to be able to contribute to Neriuffiit Kattuffiat’s important work,” says Jacob Nitter Sørensen, Chief Executive Officer of Air Greenland.
Partnership provides greater scope for other initiatives
The agreement comes as Neriuffiit Kattuffiat prepares for its annual national fundraising campaign on Friday 30 October. With Air Greenland’s contribution towards transport, the organisation will be able to prioritise more of its own funds for other activities, including initiatives within the local associations.
“The partnership with Air Greenland comes at a really good time, just as we are about to launch our national fundraising campaign. When we receive help with transport, we can use more of our own resources on other important initiatives for cancer patients and their families. This gives both us and our local branches greater scope to develop activities and strengthen local support. In this way, we get more out of the funds at our disposal and can achieve more with our work,” says Ivalo Heilmann, Director of Neriuffiit Kattuffiat.
Flight tickets worth 150,000 Danish kroner
Air Greenland’s contribution is to be used for travel in connection with activities, courses and development programmes for volunteers, support workers, people affected by cancer and their relatives.
Through the ILIK programme, discounts of up to 75 % can be obtained by utilising spare seat capacity. This means that the 150,000 Danish kroner can cover several journeys, depending on when the tickets are booked and which seats are available.
The agreement runs from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027. The parties will subsequently evaluate the activities carried out and the results of the collaboration.
