A new direct connection to Ilulissat

A new international airport makes it easier to reach Ilulissat, Disko Bay and North Greenland directly from Copenhagen — bringing one of Greenland's most spectacular regions closer to Denmark.

Scheduled services start on November 2026, with Jettime operating throughout the winter. From April 2027, Air Greenland will take over the route with its new Airbus A320neo Unaaq.

Ilulissat becomes a direct international entry point

Air Greenland A330-800neo Tuukkaq inaugurates the direct Copenhagen-Ilulissat route.

Winter launch
2 Nov 2026 to Mar 2027
Jettime Boeing 737-800 NG. Mainly Wednesdays, with selected additional Monday departures at Christmas, New Year and 1-27 March.

Fleet transition
From Apr 2027
Air Greenland A320neo Unaaq takes over the route. Flight numbers change to GL705 and GL706.

Peak summer
Mid-Jun to early Sep 2027
Frequency increases to as many as six weekly rotations.

Winter connections via Ilulissat

From Ilulissat, travellers can continue by regional aircraft and helicopter to destinations across Disko Bay and farther north.

Aasiaat
Same-day connection from Copenhagen on Wednesdays.

Qaarsut and Uummannaq
From 1 March 2027, same-day connections from Copenhagen on Mondays.

Upernavik
Same-day northbound connection from Copenhagen on Wednesdays. Southbound travellers should plan an overnight stay in Ilulissat.

Qaanaaq
No same-day connection in either direction. The Ilulissat–Upernavik–Qaanaaq route operates on Tuesdays, so an overnight stay in Ilulissat is required.

Aircraft and helicopter operations
The domestic network combines Dash 8 Q200 aircraft and helicopters. Qaarsut connects onward to Uummannaq and nearby settlements by helicopter. Rotor-wing services remain essential in the Disko Bay, Uummannaq, Upernavik and Qaanaaq service-contract areas.
